The Radical Songbook

Can music change the world? On “The Radical Songbook” you’ll hear songs of protest, rebellion, solidarity and social significance from many genres and eras, as well as interviews and conversations with social activists about the work they are doing in Central Oregon and beyond.
KPOV DJ Michael Funke has a long history of unique shows on KPOV.  From “Working Bend” to “Psychedelic Protest” to “Right Here Right Now” and “Breakfast in Bend”, Michael has been part of KPOV since the beginning.

Michael is on a road trip for 12 weeks this summer. The following rebroadcasts will air while he is gone. These are all shows that originally aired in 2017 or early in 2018. We hope you enjoy them. They all include some great music. Michael will be back in September.

July 27—Mavis Staples, from the beginning to the present.
August 3—The role of music in the struggle against apartheid in South Africa.
August 10—Nixon and Watergate revisited in the age of Trump.
August 17—Woody Guthrie wrote 26 songs in 30 days all about the Grand Coulee Dam.
August 24—Buffy Saint-Marie and a Native American viewpoint on the Grand Coulee today.
