The Sunday Classics – hosted by local hosts Jack Elliott, Michele Freeman, and Alan Maxim, as well as shows from WFMT and Pacifica Radio Networks.
Featuring enduring works of music from the Renaissance through the 20th century, your hosts will showcase the music that has become part of our lives and culture, timeless music meant to be heard and enjoyed time after time.
Chamber and orchestral music, the operatic voice, and notable solo performances — all part of the classics, every Sunday morning at 10:00 am to noon.
We rotate hosts, and here’s how it goes:
First Sunday of the month: Jack Elliott hosts the Sunday Classics on every first Sunday with explorations of the best of the music, as well as featuring news and interviews from the Central Oregon Symphony, Opera Bend, and other classical music events in town.
Third Sunday of the month: Alan Maxim, host of KPOV shows Slainte (Saturdays at 4pm) and Breakfast in Bend (Friday mornings at 7am), drops by to play his favorite music; or we might hear other shows like WFMT’s Relevant Tones with Seth Boustead, an hour-long exploration of the diverse art form we call classical music, followed by WETA’s Center Stage at Wolf Trap, showcasing live performances from some of today’s finest chamber musicians.
Fourth Sunday of the month: Michele Freeman brings an informative but engagingly down-to-earth presentation of classical music.
and Fifth Sundays of the month are an opportunity to play Baroque and Beyond with host Michael White, from Pacifica Radio Network.
Jack Elliott also co-hosts the Wednesday morning Point on KPOV with his wife, Jacquie. A former musician and audio engineer, he has been a lifelong fan of classical music. Born in Santa Barbara, he now lives in Bend with the lovely Mrs. Elliott and a fairly average (by most standards) cat.
The Sunday Classics airs every Sunday from 10am-noon.
