The High Desert Museum will kick off its winter 2019 Backpack Explorers series on January 9 and 10. Parents and children ages 3 – 5 investigate science, art, music, stories and culture in a hands-on manner. Backpacks are filled with exciting objects related to the weekly theme as they journey through the Museum’s nature trails and exhibits. In the first week with the theme Buggin’ Out, children explore the insects found in water and on land in the High Desert, including how they survive and what role they play in the ecosystem.
Backpack Explorers takes place weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am — 11:00 am. The program is $15 per child and Museum Members receive a 20 percent discount. Non-members pay Museum admission for an accompanying adult. The complete Backpack Explorers calendar can be found online athighdesertmuseum.org/backpack-explorers.
Space is also now available in the High Desert Museum’s Kids Camp Spring Break program, March 25 – 29. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade can spend their breaks learning about wildlife, chemistry and nature photography. There’s also space available for our Feb. 1 Kids Camp program.
