Book Signing with Sandy Grubb

Meet Oregon author Sandy Grubb and learn about her debut middle grade novel, Just Like Click, set at Black Butte Ranch. Books will be available for purchase and signing! Nick Townley has lived his entire life—all eleven years—at Black Butte Ranch, nestled in the foothills of the snow-capped Cascade Mountains. While his parents push him to study, practice sports, and make friends, Nick prefers to retreat into his superhero universe and create exciting Adventures of Click comics. When a string of robberies threatens Dad's job, forcing them to move across the country, Nick's world implodes. He loves his home, and what will he do about the $237,000 in cash under his bed that Great Gramp gave him before he died? Desperate to stop the move, Nick steps off his comic book pages and ventures into the night as Click, an undercover superhero. Catching thieves would be a lot easier if he had actual superpowers. When three new kids discover his identity and want to join him, Nick vows to stay undercover... until he realizes even a superhero needs friends. But can he ask them to put their lives in danger to save his home? What would Click do? Sandy Grubb has been writing children’s stories since she was a child herself, fine-tuning her talents when she became serious about publishing. In 2022, Sandy’s manuscript Just Like Click won the esteemed Kraken Book Prize, recognizing finely crafted middle grade fiction and resulting in a publishing contract with Fitzroy Books, the children’s imprint of Regal House Publishing. The book, releasing in 2024, is a superhero story about friendship, belonging, and self-discovery. Sandy wrote Just Like Click with her three sons in mind, wanting to write a story that boys – and girls – would enjoy reading. The story is set at Black Butte Ranch, an Oregon location where her family has enjoyed many vacations throughout the years. When she isn’t writing, Sandy enjoys exploring the beautiful world around her with its interesting people and cultures. She and her husband have taken their children to every continent, which has provided rich experiences that Sandy draws from for her writing. Volunteer work with World Vision has led Sandy off the beaten path to meet amazing children around the world—from tunnels under the streets in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to densely populated slums in Bangladesh, to small remote villages in Zambia. Each trip fills a journal and her heart full of stories and memories. A former elementary school teacher and a longtime member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Sandy has an English and French Literature degree from Stanford University and a teaching certificate from U.C. Berkeley. Passionate about making life better for children around the world, she serves on the Board of World Vision U.S. Sandy and her husband live outside of Portland, Oregon, overlooking the beautiful Mt. Hood, where they enjoy hiking and skiing.

Lucas Alberg Trail Running Bend and Central Oregon is an extensive guide to the best trail running in one of the country's top outdoor destinations. Author and trail runner Lucas Alberg provides detailed descriptions of the area's best loop runs, including several new trails added within recent years. From classic high desert runs to the east in the Badlands, to mountain escapes and high alpine scenery to the west in the Cascades, the guide highlights the unique and diverse geography that Central Oregon has to offer. Unlike other guidebooks, Trail Running Bend and Central Oregon is organized by season, so runners can know when to hit the right trails at the right times throughout the year. The 50 routes described in the book are all located within 65 miles of Bend, which means that trail runners will spend more time doing what they love to do, instead of spending time behind the windshield in anticipation. Michelle Davis The Invitation Betrayal … Desire … Violence … Fear … Though she’s somewhat guilt-ridden from repeatedly lying to her husband, Nicki Keating’s anticipation of a passionate Valentine’s celebration with her lover overpowers all shame. But after arriving at his stunning mountain home, she encounters her darkest nightmare. Devastated and frightened, Nicki runs … but to where? Uncertainty … Doubt … Distrust … Worry … Marlee Ryan, a part-time journalist for the Philadelphia Inquirer, is married to an orthopedic surgeon and mother to sixteen-year-old Patrick—who is growing up more quickly than she’d like to admit. While writing comes easily to Marlee, she struggles with her most recent assignment addressing holistic healing opportunities in the Philadelphia area. After participating in several New Age practices, Marlee realizes that not only do these spiritual wellness methods help her feel renewed, but they also assist in unearthing feelings she’s suppressed for years. However, these lessons quickly surpass personal development when Marlee and three friends travel to the Poconos for a getaway weekend. Unexpectedly intertwined in a murder mystery, the four women utilize newly discovered gifts to uncover missing pieces to the crime. This journey of self-realization guides Marlee to release the past, listen to her intuition, and embrace the uncertainty of her future. The rather unorthodox/creepy dentist is a suspect…but no one knows for sure until the very last seconds of the show. Toss in a clueless snowboarder, his equally clueless girlfriend, and a police sergeant who can’t say anything about the investigation… and you have a recipe for an uproarious farce that will leave you in stitches. The Longest Race In “one of the most important athlete memoirs of its generation” (Kate Fagan, #1 New York Times bestselling author), Olympian Kara Goucher reveals her experience of living through and speaking out about one of the biggest scandals in running. Kara Goucher grew up with Olympic dreams. She excelled at running from a young age and was offered a Nike sponsorship deal when she graduated from college. Then in 2004, she was invited to join a secretive, lavishly funded new team, dubbed the Nike Oregon Project. Coached by distance running legend Alberto Salazar, it seemed like the opportunity of a lifetime. Kara was soon winning a World Championship medal, going to the Olympics, and standing on the podium at the New York and Boston marathons, just like her coach had done. But behind the scenes, Salazar was hiding dark secrets. He pushed the limits of anti-doping rules and created what Kara experienced as a culture of abuse, the extent of which she reveals in her book for the first time. Meanwhile, Nike stood by Alberto for years and proved itself capable of shockingly misogynistic corporate practices. The Longest Race is an unforgettable story that is “as interesting as it is important” (Molly Huddle, two-time Olympian)
