Tune in to Americana Underground on Monday, Jan. 15th at 10am for a MLK Day special, featuring music that honors Martin Luther King Jr.’s message for equal justice and living in Peace.
Martin Luther King Jr. was a prominent figure in the civil rights movement and his influence extended to music as well. He recognized the power of music as an “instrument of change”, and believed that it played a critical role in inspiring, mobilizing, and giving voice to the civil rights movement. King’s speeches and sermons were often accompanied by gospel music, which he used to convey his message of hope and unity. He also spoke about the importance of freedom songs, which he believed gave people “new courage and a sense of unity".
